Apply for his job. Seriously. Although if they hire you we still won't get your local Utah news analysis, dang it.
# 2. 7/1/10 12:16 AM
What the hell??? All those words about Larry King and not one word about how freaking ugly he is or how many wives he's had? If he were a woman, you'd have made at least six jokes about the face factor. He's uglier than Elena Kagan's dog's ass, and hasn't he been married like seven or ten times? Must be that all those women were attracted to his enormous... salary.
Editor's Note: about 10 years ago i saw larry king in person, at one of the political conventions. he was standing in the lobby of a hotel, to be seen. what an oddly insect-like body he had. he is from every angle a very, very freakish looking man.

Amen Bob. Larry's only claim to fame was his "Softball" pitching record when he was interviewing liberals on his TV show. I would rate him a second only to the Greatest softball pitcher ever, Eddie Feigner! His career spanned over 50 years. Wins - 9,743 games Strike Outs - 141,517 No Hitters - 930 Perfect Games - 238

Bob, this is totally off subject. I went on line and went to WHAM and listened to a few minutes of you show.. Loved it.. I really miss you on KNRS.. Loved hearing from your beautiful daughters.

Since reported that he bought his wife's sister an expensive car in an attempt to woo her and his wife's suicide attempt, it is time for him to retire and take care of his family problems. Personally, he was overrated on CNN and I have no doubt that will replacement will too be a bore unless Rosie "Crazy" O'Donnell hosts. I hope Joan Rivers does not get the gig or Ryan Seacrest for that matter.
# 6. 7/1/10 2:56 AM by Jolene
We're not going to say that about you in a few years, are we? I couldn't get past the vision of Larry looking like Mr. Burns enough to watch him.

Bob, I too, used to listen to Larry on the radio when he was one-of-a-kind. He had a little something going on tv when Ross Perot was running, but that was about the most of it. I'm glad Bush/Cheney/Rummy selectee Gen. David Petraeus didn't retire, though. The same goes for Bush selectee Sec. Gates. At least some solace can be taken in these two, as we now focus directly on the righteous mission at hand. Hats off to the Prez for utilizing the prior wisdom, regardless if he opens himself to calls of copycat. What a laugh, too, everytime the libs cry of the 'mess they were handed'. Ha.Haha.Hahaha. 70% of the financial meltdown lay at the feat of Clinton/Rubin/Frank with the forced lending to those that had no business buying much real estate. Yet, leaving open the interest charged, such that predatory lending to the brown&black neighborhoods ruled the day through huge firms and fannie/freddy. 2012, please.

Who is more handsome, you or him?
# 9. 7/1/10 6:03 AM
Larry had some real issues. Turner knew how to use him to make big bucks. As far as his personal life goes, he was a real whack job. I mean, he probably ate boogers as a kid. But, like Glenn Beck, "that's entertainment".

I’ve got an idea on how you can get your Utah gig back: Now that Larry is retired, go out and buy yourself some shirts with shoulder pads, a gigantic pair of ant-frying glasses and a bunch of suspenders. Start slicking your hair back into a pompadour and sit behind a desk like you’re constipated and are physically trying to resolve that on the air. It worked for Larry King, it might just work for you.

I read his autobiog-what a disappointment! His greatest talent may have been his capacity to interview others, but King always came across to me as humorless, self righteous and arrogant. I remember his inverview with a Russian comdedian, Smirnoff, and how King became expasperated, unable to coax some nostalgic remembrance from Smirnoff about his life in the Communist slave nation. In desperation, King suggested the wonders of Russian black bread, and the taste of earthiness, commoness, etc ad nauseum,in a sly attempt to link the bread to the communist triumph. Smirnoff would have none of it, and replied-"I'll take WonderBread any day Larry".Smirnoff had Kings number-talk about deflation! Ha! Leave it to a foreigner to remind the great Larry King, radio broadcaster exrordinaire, about the taste of freedom. Maybe there is a spot for King somewhere in Branson. They'd listen to him there.

Hey Bob-
You are correct, to be successful one needs to find the right venue. Larry King's was late night talk radio and your's seems to be a mid-day show. Take either one out of it's element and things go bad.
So please don't go on TV anytime soon....we would miss you. Besides, I don't even plug mine in until around October. Too much to do outdoors in the good weather!
Tony
Editor's Note: actually, midday is the time of day -- other than evening -- when i am least likely to succeed. a drive-time show is more natural, or a late-night, overnight show.
# 13. 7/1/10 7:11 AM
Bob, many years ago (1988 or so), I tuned in Mr. King's show because I heard my musical hero, Frank Zappa would be on it. Well, it was apparent from Minute #1 that Larry had no idea who Mr. Zappa was, was completely ill prepared for the interview reading questions from a sheet of paper someone else had written for him & getting all those "questions" facts mixed up or wrong. Mr. Zappa obviously took delight in this, toying with Larry & making fun of him, but even after a while even he got bored with the whole charade.
I never watched Larry King again.

And now the great minds at CNN are going to have a show ala' Crossfire with none other than Elliott Spitzer.
Bad enough they are doing it. What's worse are there are those who will watch it.
I never knew Larry King was on the radio. Must not be as old as you!

Oddly, the one on the radio nowadays who seems to have the knack for storytelling is Michael Savage.
As for his political rants, I could take them or leave them. But it's entertaining to hear his personal stories, things like spending his childhood brushing a cyanide solution onto bronze statuettes as a chore for his dad. Or describing San Francisco former hippies acting like jerks at the farmer's market.
Editor's Note: i agree about savage being today's storyteller. he's really good at that. he's got a wonderful style.

My favorite Larry King Live was when Tracy Jordan was on and the Asian markets crashed. Tracy incited all of New York City into a financial panic.
Wait that was on 30 Rock.
That's the only time I've ever watched Larry King Live.

I was one of those third-shifters you mentioned. It was discovering how Larry King helped the night go by more quickly that lead me to the discovery of Rush Limbaugh when I was back on the day shift. And then G. Gordon Liddy, Tom Baberri (sp?), Glenn Beck, and finally YOU in the mornings on KNRS.
We sure miss you.

This level of negativity is usually reflective of the author rather than the subject. After such an amazing and impressive career, can we not honor such success. It's like when Michael Jackson passed away, all of the media reports were full of negativity. Sorry, not a fan of this column.

Elena Kagan delivered an impressive performance at her Senate confirmation hearing. Assuming the commitments she made were authentic and not simply designed to tranquilize the members of the Judiciary Committee, she could act as an important brake on the current Supreme Court’s alarming tendency to bulldoze through decades of settled precedents. She deserves confirmation as an associate justice. Ms. Kagan stood up firmly to a three-day tantrum thrown by the ranking Republican on the panel, Jeff Sessions of Alabama. He churned considerable political grist out of the nondiscrimination policy at Harvard. That policy, which she defended as law school dean and again this week, barred official campus recruiting by the military because it discriminates against gay men and lesbians. Her defense of Justice Thurgood Marshall from bizarre attacks by Republican senators was heartening. She did firmly reassert her position against the military’s “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy and did not shy away from her opposition as solicitor general to the court’s tragic decision to allow unlimited corporate spending in elections. Her legal scholarship has been impressive, as was her work as dean of Harvard Law School and adviser in the Clinton White House. After the hearing, we have increased confidence she will be a good addition to the Supreme Court.
Editor's Note: a quick google search found this exact same bull-crap response posted on more than 40 websites. another example of how democrats use "free speech" to lie.

Spot on observations. Rekindles some memories I have of not being able to sleep at night. I'd take the clock radio off the night stand and slowly turn the am dial. I was always amazed at how many different broadcasts you could pick up in those late hours. Stations out of NYC, Chicago, French speaking stations out of Quebec and, inevitably, Larry King.
Editor's Note: now it's just coast to coast and goof balls talking about space ships

I'll never forget when Larry asked Jerry Seinfeld if his show had been canceled. Some watch that clip and see Seinfeld's ego. I, however, am in total agreement with Seinfeld's reaction and see it as just another classic no-brainer airhead moment in Larry King's "legacy". Seinfeld just happened to be the one to finally call him out on it.
Do you know who I am? Is this still CNN? Are you under the impression that I got canceled? Can we get a resume in here for me that Larry could go over? I was number 1 show in television! 75 million viewers!

Back when King was on radio, he was not immersed in politics and celebrity politics ... it was a nice late night show to listen to.
I could do a better job than Larry King ... King of the softball questions.
King always would ask dumb questions:
King: "So was your mother a good mother?" (After Jackie Onassis died)"
Carolyn Kennedy : "My mother was wonderful .. blah, blah, blah ..."
It's like Larry you idiot, do you think Carolyn is going to say something negative ... what a dumb ass question. Every night he would ask dumb ass questions and even his dumb ass audience kept shrinking as a result.

I happened to catch his interview with Jerry Seinfeld when he was on to promote the new Seinfeld CD's. Larry asked him if he was "forced" out of his tv show! This after the network had offered him tens of millions to PLEASE stay just one more year.
Jerry's reply: Could somebody get this guy a newspaper?

Larry WAS good on the radio - but stunk it up big time on TV. And the last few years it seems...every time he had a female guest, he would size up their breasts, or make some other weird sexual comment to his guest.
Obviously there was some constant insuppressible horniness going on with that dude...I mean, after 15 wives, all under the age of twenty...you're STILL not satisfied? Only Mr. Hefner himself had more access to double-D's that Larry.

Every time I read an article of this caliber I am freshly ticked at KNRS. It is the "family values" station that is devoid of journalistic integrity. It is the Energy Solutions media outlet. Do you read the hard-hitting peice one of the local fish-wraps did to get to the bottom of why KNRS fired you? They went straight to the station's PR flak to determine that it was, in fact, ratings. I love this State, but what passes as journalism here is gut-wrenchingly vapid.
There is literally nothing to listen to in the morning in Utah. Please keep us posted on any Utah job prospects. Until you return my alarm clock will be set to that annoying drone that is specifically designed to push any residual adrenaline directly into my left ventricle.

This brings back memories. I built a Radio Shack AM crystal radio kit in the early 70's when I was a young kid and kept it under my bed. At night i would pull it out and put in the single earphone and dial in whatever I could. Mostly Redwing baseball and the "Shadow" drama/suspense series on WHAM or WBEE.
Just curious, Did Larry King always have such a strong liberal bias and weak personality or does he just play to the audience he's given? Was his head always that large?
# 39. 7/1/10 1:06 PM by Randy - Marysville, CA
I was a security guard in 1980 when I first discovered talk radio through Larry King. He kept me awake on many long, lonely nights. I used to love his stories. You couldn't always tell what his opinion of a guest was during the interview, but you sure could tell during the open phone portion of the show. He never appealed to me after he started working during the light of day. I never watched a full hour on CNN. He definitely does have a "face for radio".

my favorite is the Massa question "are you gay?"

# 41. 7/1/10 1:32 PM
If one doesn't toe the conservative line this is the pantload you hear from conservatives. Liberal bias, unbearable self-importance, fundamental irrelevance, no real audience. Conservative claptrap.
Larry King kicked butt on TV for years. He became known as Mr. Nine PM. People checked to see who Larry had on before looking elsewhere.
Yeah, CNN has lost alot of ground since the Fox nightly circus brought in the clowns, jugglers and trained animals serving as a bustier for the drooping boobs of the GOP. Hell, Fox and Limbaugh ARE the GOP today. Ain't no elected Republican ever gonna cross the right wing media. They'll be burned at the stake.
I think Larry heard that Hugh Hefner is ill and hopes to move into the mansion when his show ends.
Editor's Note: larry king never had more than the tiniest of audiences -- ever. it was always a tiny niche show.
# 42. 7/1/10 1:43 PM by Nick - Irondequoit, NY
He wasn't any good on the radio either. Just a rude, self absorbed bore.

Your comment re: "Coast to Coast" is an important observation. This show is carried by a lot of high power stations across the nation. Is this the best that can be offered? Larry King was entertaining, without having to dip so deeply into the looney bin. Why have we had decades of experts on space aliens?
Editor's Note: in my next life, i want to do overnights on a big 50,000 watt am station and go up against coast to coast.
# 44. 7/1/10 1:51 PM
I agree with your comment, "what an oddly insect-like body he had. he is from every angle a very, very freakish looking man."
Bob, why not do a column exploring why nearly all talk shows today are no more than infomercials for books, movies, TV shows or political ideologies.
I've always believed that if you dropped the sales pitches and rabble-rousing for your conservative ideology and political party and simply hung-out (don't be vulgar) with your callers and listeners you would have a blockbuster show.
I know it will never happen, corporate bureaucrats have their models to follow and heaven forbid there are any changes. Too bad American media of all kinds has become a giant infomercial.
I want more TV where one third of the screens image is always running some kind of advertising DURING THE DAMNED SHOW!!!
As if commercials aren't bad enough, now they run them while the show is playing.
What gall!
# 45. 7/1/10 2:29 PM by Pat - Orem
Larry King had respect for his guests but he was always very rude and arrogant to his callers. This is probably the cause of his low ratings.

barbara walters was the best! Oprah also a great empathic interviewer. Women listen better than men with right and left brain. Men it has been scientifically proven only listen with one side of their brain the logical side when they even listen. If men want to be useful then get some counseling. You all need it.
Editor's Note: barbara walters sucks. honestly, she is maudlin crap.

I was reading this poll that says 87% of Republicans are mostly concerned with our leaders thinking they are smarter than the people; while 67% of Demcrats mainly are concerned with the partison bickering. Bickering is definately not a good example to show the children in our society of how to act. How do Republicans seems to think they know what everyone is thinking? Rush sure seems to think he knows ot all. Larry King isn't so arrogant. Rush is the King of arrogance. He's scary as he is so abusive and gives out disinformation. Some of it is true layered with falshoods. He does believe in the conspiracy theories like Glenn. Of course because they are true. Unless you're a total nitwit. It takes Republicans much time.
